Sources: See ‘Documents’ – today, this definition taken froma book on the historian’s craft published 30 years ago wouldbe considered excessively narrow. Documents remain the historian’s core source but most practitioners would now acknowledge the contribution that the spoken word, images and artefacts can and should make to our understanding of the past.
