ABSTRACT

Japan is inventing its way out of an economic inertia that has existed for at least a decade. It is making some of the most radical changes in history to its assessment of valuing intangible assets and changing its attitudes to litigation. The speed of change in the IP field is occurring at a furious pace and in some cases surpassing that in Western countries. The push of the Koizumi administration for Japan to become an IP nation and the vigorous nature of IP promotion were linked inextricably to economic structural reform, which was part of the need to be globally competitive once again by turning around the catastrophic economic situation.
