ABSTRACT
Berlin, Bremen and Hamburg are city states (Stadtstaaten). Following reunification, the following five states in east Germany (the
neue Bundesländer (new federal states)) now also form part of the Bund:
— Brandenburg — Mecklenburg-Vorpommern — Sachsen (Saxony) — Sachsen-Anhalt — Thüringen (Thuringia).
