The position of judges in Germany is governed by the Deutsches Richtergesetz (DRiG: German Judges Law) of 8 September 1961, which is divided into four Parts:

Part I: The office of judge in the Bund and in the Länder (§§ 1-45a) Part II: Judges in service of the Bund (§§ 46-70) Part III: Judges in service of a Land (§§ 71-84) Part IV: Transitional and final provisions (§§ 85-126).
