ABSTRACT

As we have outlined, the mentoring programmes which lay at the heart of this study had two main components. They sought to establish a one-to-one relationship between the young people and an adult assigned to them – their ‘mentor’. Alongside this relationship, the programmes also provided a significant educational/training element – the ‘plus’ bit of Mentoring Plus. In this chapter we examine both these elements of the programme, from the initial residential that the majority of young people attended, through to the end of the young person’s relationship with the programme (at some point during the course of the year).
