ABSTRACT

This book has examined current copyright issues in the context of the knowledge economy, digitalisation and international trade and globalisation, and explored possible theoretical, policy and legislative solutions at various levels (particularly domestic and bilateral/regional levels). This book (Part I, Chapters 1-2) started with an introduction to the research background, research objectives, research methodology and book structure. This book then examined the interrelation of law and technology, and provided an overview of the development of technology and current international copyright laws. This book identified the fact that digital convergence has become a tendency in the development of communication technology. Likewise, the expansion of copyright protection and the adoption of bilateral and regional approaches to Intellectual Property issues have become a tendency in the development of current international copyright law. This book also identified that ever-improving technology has brought about profound impacts on traditional business models, copyright industry, traditional copyright laws, civil society, and the international socio-economic and legislative environment in general.
