ABSTRACT
Since the start of the industrial age, humankind has made ever-increasing demands on the environment to satisfy our need for water, fuel and food. In so doing, we threaten the survival of other species. Most governments are taking steps to protect a proportion of the natural habitat, but these pockets of land may not be enough to protect biodiversity.
