ABSTRACT

Waste is one of the great unspoken problems of our time. It is an issue that reaches from the actions of individuals to the operation of large-scale industry. Non-stop growth in garbage is consuming landfill sites faster than they can be created. Commercial enterprises have stepped in, and recycling rubbish has become a global business worth billions of dollars, yet still the problem mounts. At one end of the scale lie the plastic bags that supermarkets give away for free and that end up in the sea, killing dolphins. At the other end lies industrial pollution and the unresolved problem of disposing of the radioactive waste products of nuclear power. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315065953/7bf0213c-a136-4311-af98-6f56ec81a0c2/content/pg112-1_B.jpg" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/> https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315065953/7bf0213c-a136-4311-af98-6f56ec81a0c2/content/pg113-1_B.jpg" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
