ABSTRACT
From a police perspective, making an arrest is virtually an everyday occurrence. However, from the perspective of a member of the public, it can be a distressing experience. It has been said (in the case of Lewis v Chief Constable of South Wales Constabulary [1991] 1 All ER 206), that an arrest involves depriving a person of his or her liberty to go where he or she pleases.
