ABSTRACT

In recent years policing has undergone an enormous amount of reorganisation in response to changes within society. There has been the expansion of private security and a growth in realising that trans-national policing is important when tackling major, organised crime and terrorism, for example. Further, the way the police are organised and managed has also been under scrutiny within the government’s drive for reform in all the public services. Perhaps one of the biggest changes in the police service as a whole can be seen in the introduction and use of technology, coupled with an increase in the intelligence-led, or targeted, approach to the use of police resources.
