ABSTRACT

What opportunities are available for students with disabilities after they complete their senior secondary school in the Asia-Pacific region? Practitioners as well as parents of these students frequently worry about post-secondary life, and some even indicate the concern that these young people may end up going nowhere after school. Many regions have begun to seriously consider transition issues for students with disabilities as they start to provide extended years of study for them in secondary schools. For example, starting in 2003, the Hong Kong Government supported the Extended Year of Education (EYE) program, mainly for the purpose of providing 24 months of additional education programs for 14-16-year-old students that focus on transition [Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB), 2007].
