ABSTRACT
Under international law certain categories of persons and bodies are immune from the jurisdiction of municipal courts. These are as follows.
1. Foreign sovereigns and foreign states enjoy sovereign immunity (state immunity). The extent of state immunity from the European perspective was set out in the European Convention on State Immunity 1972 which was given effect in the UK by the State Immunity Act 1978.
