ABSTRACT
In 1981 the population of Nepal was just over 15 million with an average density of 102 per sq km. By the mid-1980s the estimated population was almost 17 million. As would be expected in a country of such marked environmental contrasts the population is very unevenly distributed (fig. 29. Table 2 shows the population data for the three major ecological zones.
