ABSTRACT
Quality of life is seen as an indicator of success for both environmentalists concerned with sustainable development and those involved in regeneration. More importantly, community involvement has become an essential element in Local Agenda 21 and here there may be useful lessons from the experience of housing regeneration in the UK, where community involvement has been a key strategy in tackling poverty and disadvantage, particularly on public housing estates, for many years.
