ABSTRACT
Based on earlier experiences in participatory research, our research groupWorkpackage 1 (WP1) in EU parlance and one of ten WPs in the entire projectconducted all research in the spirit of intensive participation. Researchers and reindeer herders were expert partners in WP1. They collaborated to formulate research questions and to conduct the research, which included fieldwork, discussions, communications, meetings, writings, translations, and reviews. They mulled over the results of this work in three participatory workshops, organized in 2001, 2002, and 2003. And, after intensive workshop deliberations, they crafted final recommendations to improve governance.2
