ABSTRACT
If an area – or a whole country – vanishes beneath the sea, anyone can appreciate the damage that has occurred. But even if sea level rise matches the most pessimistic of today’s forecasts, the majority of its ill effects will not be so stark. Instead they will be subtle, gradual – and highly dangerous to human and other life, and to economic activity.
