ABSTRACT

The extent to which historical, political and socio-cultural circumstances shape law, and the extent to which law through its institutions, personnel, and doctrines is in charge of its own destiny are issues that will be considered at length in many of the courses you will study, such as legal philosophy, legal history, discrimination law, law and religion, human rights law, and law and politics courses. However, it is good to be made aware of the contexts of law at the beginning of your studies. And when we move away from the micro level of the meaning and interpretation of words in statutes and law reports, the fluidity of law across time and in the face of external change becomes very apparent.
