ABSTRACT
Food-processing and catering are more universally female contributions to the world economy than the production of food, since women in industrialised countries do as much of this kind of work as those in mainly agricultural countries. For most women the final processing and provision of food is the end of the cycle of seeing the family fed which begins with bearing a child and proceeds via breastfeeding to raising or procuring food.
