ABSTRACT

There are several industry associations and many 'special interest groups' actively involved in developing the principles of sustainable development. Examples illustrate how professional bodies, industry associations, new groupings and emerging networks are making a difference to the way in which difficult issues are approached. These initiatives are collaborative ventures typically involving people with different interests. Some initiatives are major undertakings with worldwide implications, others are small scale. All seek to influence a significant group of people with special interests and reach a wider audience. The small scale examples emphasise the point that everyone can make a contribution.
