ABSTRACT

Fuelwood is the people's source of energy. Most people in the SADCC region depend upon it for survival. It provides four-fifths of all the energy consumed. It is mainly used in the household for transforming the fruits of production for human consumption and for the provision of heat and light, and it will continue to be so for years to come. Yet, as more and more land is cleared for agriculture and settlement, what was once a common and free resource is now under stress in a growing number of places within the region.
