ABSTRACT

Global marine fi sh production is humankind’s largest source of either wild or domestic animal protein, and is particularly important in the developing countries. e 1990s saw the end of a 40-year fi shing boom. e worldwide catch increased more than four times between 1950 and 1990 but has remained at around the same level since then. In 2011, 79 million tonnes of fi sh were caught at sea (FAO, 2012).
