ABSTRACT

The ways in which beginner students are introduced to drama are critical and important for laying the foundations of basic terms, understandings and practices. They will need early experiences that develop their confidence and comfortableness in working together and in dramatic exploration. Teachers need to provide a range of activities that allow students to practise their emerging drama skills and understandings in a safe and trusting learning environment. The way the teacher leads and facilitates at this point is critical to establishing good working practices, a sense of experimentation and strong group cohesion.
