ABSTRACT

This chapter offers teachers multiple starting points and approaches for playbuilding using storying processes, narrative structures and stories as the core focus. Storying plays such a significant role in playbuilding and drama generally, and it is often so encompassing and embedded in the work that drama teachers find it hard to differentiate how narrative form is being used and developed within the drama creative process. This chapter aims to give some guidance about possible ways of using narrative forms and processes within the playbuilding process. It also offers teachers an array of approaches and ideas that can be adapted to units of work for students of all stages and levels of ability. At the same time, the chapter flags some of the critical pedagogical issues and concerns for drama educators working with narrative forms and processes in classroom playbuilding.
