ABSTRACT

Great challenges are facing transport planning in cities in the developing (and developed) world as economic development is sought in a manner that is also consistent with environmental and social goals. Transport is a critical part of the design of the sustainable city, and plays a major role in people’s everyday lives. Yet the transportation system is in crisis as transport energy usage and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions rise and the impact of traffic and its associated infrastructure on the city fabric often becomes untenable.
