ABSTRACT

The International City/County Management Association (lCMA) is a non-profit making professional association, founded in 1914, of 85,000 local government officials and urban experts. Its mission is to strengthen local democratic governments and to promote professional management in municipal governments around the world. Since 1989 it has become active in support of municipal international cooperation through contracts with various US agencies and international organizations to produce practical solutions for complex urban issues in developing countries around the world. Although ICMA is based in the US, it has both individual members and partner associations in five continents. Its international technical assistance budget for 1995 was over US$ll million.
