ABSTRACT
In 1993, Habitat in conjunction with the Chilean Government launched the Metropolitan Concepcion Sustainable Cities Project (SCn Its main objective is to strengthen the environmental management and planning capacities of Concepcion's municipalities and their partners in the public, business and community sectors. The Project focuses on two main environmental issues: lim d the management of water resources. Outcomes of the project include strategies on priority urban environmental issues, technical assistance and investment itutional capacity-building programmes. With initial
m the Italian Government, ecl's success has enabled it to secure 100 per cent g by 1997 through the mobilization of local, public, private and community resources.
Moreover, the Project has coordinated US$2,{)00,OOO from national sources for the implementation of action plans.
