ABSTRACT
With just under two million people, the UCD comprises 21 per cent of the Senegalese population. Only 27 per cent of UeD households are connected to the sewerage system and less than 65 per
n have access to garbage coUection services. It is estimated that insufficient s are the principle cause of the growth in the incidence of disease in
the city. The UCD is .responsible for strategic and service including waste management in five local jurisdictions in the greater akar area. the solid waste management systems that have been employed over the last several decades have succeeded in maintaining efficient services. As a result, urihealthy conditions and environmental degradation have been SPreading throughout the city.
