ABSTRACT

In April 1996 Pulvertaft was forewarned by the SIS that one of its former members, released after his probationary period and refused an industrial tribunal on security grounds, was threatening to tell his story in the Sunday Times. While the Secretary was considering how, if at all, DA-Notice No.6 would be applicable, the Treasury Solicitor stepped in, and Pulvertaft dropped out. The newspaper was persuaded initially not to publish his name nor where he had served, for fear of compromising his contacts there. This was the beginning of what later became known as the Tomlinson case. 118
