ABSTRACT

Trade and investment undoubtedly are areas of common interest for Asia and Europe. Each group wishes access to the other’s markets. Asia wishes to attract European foreign direct investment, and Europe seeks an increase of its firms’ investment in Asia. How then can dialogue within Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) enable each group to achieve its aims? To put it differently, how does ASEM dialogue generate joint action based on the respective strategies of the European Union (EU) and of the Asian states?
