ABSTRACT

The privatization of TVEs became a turning point in Sunan. With the establishment of a new capitalist order, elite relations (between the political elite and economic elite) and overall class relations underwent substantial changes.1 All the main classes in the community had to adjust their expectations and behavior accordingly. This chapter focuses on the evolving elite relations in post-privatization Sunan, that is, relations between government officials and business owners, within the framework of a polarized class structure.
