ABSTRACT

This introduction to narratology is designed for an audience of first- to third-year students in BA programmes that incorporate extensive literary criticism and theory, for MA candidates starting on the theoretical study of narrative, and for a general audience of interested laypeople and researchers in other disciplines who would like to find out about literary approaches to narrative analysis. I have incorporated broader issues of fictional narrative and have tried to provide a more linguistic and a more historical survey than traditional introductions to narratology in English generally offer.
