ABSTRACT
In this chapter we look at a number of issues arising from biomedical interventions in autism, including questions of efficacy and safety, the role of testing and the impact of these treatments on children with autism and their families. We also take a closer look at the controversies surrounding ‘early intensive behavioural intervention’ programmes which parents often pursue in parallel with biomedical treatment protocols.
