ABSTRACT
In what gave the ceremony a touch of uniqueness, members of the families of those killed in police firing in Nandigram on March 7, 2007, victims’ families of Singur and a section of sex workers of the city were all witness of this historic swearing-in. Nandigram was the starting point of Ms Banerjee and her party to build up a strong anti-Government movement on the issue of land acquisition, which ultimately raked up several other issues and touched the chord of anti-incumbency sentiment.
