ABSTRACT

What is the meaning of life? BA presents a distinct view, because, as we have already discussed, to a behaviorist, meaning is to be found in the context of behavior, speci®cally the consequences of behavior. Thus, according to BA, a meaningful life is a life ®lled with contact with diverse and stable sources of positive reinforcement. In turn, a depressed life is a life with limited contact with diverse and stable sources of positive reinforcementÐa life without meaning. The terms diverse and stable are important and will be elaborated.
