The ubiquity of negative reinforcement

So far, we have discussed how depressive environments result in reductions in behavior. Depressive environments, however, also result in increases in behavior, speci®cally increases in avoidance behavior. This observation was made by Ferster (1973) and became central to the conceptualization of BA presented by Martell and colleagues (2001).
