ABSTRACT

Skills training is a widely used cognitive behavioral technique incorporated into a variety of treatment packages (e.g., Beck et al., 1979; Linehan, 1993). It is not unique to BA. These treatment packages, however, present skills training as a programmed component, whereas BA as presented here, consistent with Martell and colleagues (2001), does not recommend skills training for all clients. Instead the application of skills training in BA is contingent upon determining the presence of repertoire de®cits through a functional assessment of failed simple activation assignments.
