ABSTRACT
The principles of care that apply to every child requiring surgery are also important for the child undergoing neurosurgery. This chapter will provide an overview and underpinning rationale of the care required for the child and family where the child is undergoing neurosurgery. The child’s needs specific to the underlying neurosurgical condition are outlined in subsequent chapters. Terminology relating to neurosurgical procedures is provided in Appendix I.
