ABSTRACT
Estimates of the size of Central America’s Indian population vary widely, from approximately 3.5 million to 5 million. Most of this population lives in Guatemala where approximately half the country’s inhabitants are Indian. In other countries of the region the Indian population generally represents less than 10 per cent of the national population. Table 4.1 presents one set of high-range estimates taken from several reputable sources.
