ABSTRACT

The whole intention of a mindfulness-based programme is for the learning to be of service in making a difference in the midst of everyday life. Formal mindfulness practice is vital in giving us an experiential taste of what it is that we are cultivating. Practicing mindfulness in daily life is known as ``informal practice'' and this is needed to bring the fruits of the practice alive where it is needed most. Detailed exploration of the effects of intentionally bringing mindfulness into the ``nitty-gritty'' of our lives is a particular and important characteristic of the eight-week mindfulness-based programme. As with formal practice, the integration of the practice into daily life does not happen accidentally. It is important, therefore, to be deliberate and intentional in cultivating it.
