ABSTRACT

An essential premise of MBCT is that the mind has two broad modes through which experience can be processedÐdoing mode and being mode. A key skill being learnt through MBCT is to recognise which mode of mind one is operating within, and to gain skills in consciously disengaging from one mode of mind and entering another when it is skilful to do so. The problems potentially created through dwelling persistently in a doing mode of mind are particularly highlighted during depression but are familiar to everyone.
