ABSTRACT

Awareness (along with the faculty of language) is the feature that distinguishes our species from all others. It leads to tremendous potential for transformation and learning (KabatZinn, 2005). Developing our practice of mindful attention is the way through which we can learn to intentionally access the awareness that is inherently present all the time. MBCT and other mindfulness-based programmes are training us to create the conditions in our lives through which we can clearly see how our awareness is obscured by the unhelpful mind states that habitually dominate our experience.
