ABSTRACT
Models permit us to simulate conditions and thus provide us with the possibility of thinking ahead. We can look at the possible outcomes of current trends, and we can try to estimate what will be the outcome of either deliberate policy changes, or other conditions over which we might not have control. We can also look back at the past and estimate how conditions would have been different under different policies or interventions.
