ABSTRACT
A population’s age and sex composition tells a great deal about what kind of demands the population will make both on the environment and on its own forms of social organization. Age/sex structures also tell us a great deal about what has happened recently to a population’s vital rates. It is common to use population pyramids to display age/sex composition. These can be very useful for the way they enable us to visualize the impact of past conditions, to forecast futures.
