ABSTRACT

As described earlier, the consultation team primarily functions to treat professionals offering DBT by enhancing their capabilities and motivation to provide DBT as adherently as possible. DBT consultation meetings differ from traditional case meetings in the degree to which the meetings focus on the professional's problems in delivering the treatment rather than on the client's problems. An individual therapist or other DBT provider (e.g. skills trainer, skills coach in the milieu) might seek consultation for a variety of conceptualization or strategic problems, such as: ``Have I missed any variables in my analysis?'', ``I don't know how to apply exposure in this situation'', or ``Does anyone have any other ideas about how to change this behaviour?'' Alternatively, a therapist might need consultation for a motivational problem such as overwhelming or prolonged anger toward a client or strong urges to quit working with a client.
