ABSTRACT
As described in the previous chapter, malaria is one of the world's most important vector-borne diseases, and there are few infectious diseases which have as great an impact on the social and economic development of societies. At present, the distribution of malaria is mainly restricted to the tropics and subtropics, although malaria was a relatively common disease in many temperate areas of the world before World War II.
