ABSTRACT
In certain refurbishment and alteration schemes, the existing floors may need to be strengthened in order to cater for increased loadings imposed by the proposed new use. The most common examples occur where existing buildings are converted to office use. In such cases, the existing timber floors may not be capable of carrying the excessive localised loads imposed by modern filing and storage systems, office machinery and equipment.
