ABSTRACT
Overview Improved international development cooperation to eradicate poverty and promote poor people’s basic rights is one of the greatest political priorities in the run-up to the millennium. This means a much greater commitment by Northern donors to high quality aid programmes that work in the interests of poor people. It also means recognising the import ance of the wider economic and political context in which aid programmes operate, in order to improve the prospects for inclusive social and economic development.
