ABSTRACT

This chapter is dedicated to a survey of the work of certain French clinicians and theoreticians concerned with the psychoanalytical approach to psychosis during the last 50 years. This particular history is strongly marked by the political outcomes of World War II in France. We are not attempting to record an exhaustive list of all French authors in this ®eld, and we take upon ourselves the responsibility for our partiality and for our choice to ignore chronological order. Rather, we are following the path of our own training, in the course of which we met Gaetano Benedetti, invited him to speak in France in 1988, and then participated in almost all the symposia organized by the International Society for the Psychological Treatments of the Schizophrenias and other Psychoses (ISPS) before we formally joined the association.
