ABSTRACT
Like British aid, French aid is concentrated on its former empire. Apart from that there are few resemblances. French aid is two to three times as large and the relationship of France with its former colonies remains tighter. Partly for this reason, the French have often been hostile towards intervention by the World Bank or the IMF, regarded as agents of US foreign economic policies and threatening French-protected markets and influence.
