ABSTRACT
Global trends are moving, albeit too slowly, towards sustainable production, waste minimization, reduced vehicle pollution, distributed electricity generation, conservation of native forests and greenhouse gas emission reductions. In addition, linked to sustainability are development and equity as sought by the people living in developing countries, 2 billion of whom have no access to electricity. Biomass has a role to play in each one of these environmental and social drivers.
